second in the order of preference on the 14th August, 1996 has become the
designated Minister.
Act 14 of 1996 further provides that if the incumbent President resigns, the
incumbent President shall continue to discharge the functions of President until
the holding of the Presidential election but the incumbent will not be able to
revoke the appointment of a Minister or invoke article 110: the Vice-President
above-referred does not assume the office of President as Vice-President would
ordinarily do under article 55 (1).
The salary, allowance and gratuity for the Vice-President continue to be those
which the Vice-President received at the time he was Minister designated first in
the order of preference.
The period which the Vice-President serves as Vice-President by virtue of the
transitional provision of Act of 1996 is not counted for the purposes of article 66
A (7).
