(1)
No association, other than a political party
registered under or pursuant to an Act of the
National assembly, shall sponsor candidates
public elections.
(2)
No association shall be registered or remain
registered as a political party if-
(a) it is formed or organised on an ethnic,
sectional, religious or regional basis;
(b) its internal organisation does not conform with
democratic principles; or
(c) its purpose if to subvert this constitution or the
rule of law.
(3)
An Act of the National Assembly shall make
provisions for the better implementation of
this section.

THE PRESIDENT
(1)
There shall be a President of The Gambia
who shall be the Head of State and of
Government and Commander in Chief of
the Armed Forces.
(2)
The President shall uphold and defend this
Constitution as the supreme law of The
Gambia.
(1)
A person shall be qualified for election as
president if(a) he or she is a citizen of The Gambia by
birth or descent,
(b) he or she attained the minimum age of
thirty years but not more than sixty-five
years;
